I created Do Tutu in 2014. To be honest, I didn’t intend to start a business; I think it found and created me!
I had made dance costumes since 1987 for my children and a few others. I even had a go at a full troupe of baby ballet tutus; that was a ‘Never again’ lesson learned! I was a self-taught seamstress but had created wedding and prom dresses previously, but then lost my sewing motivation.
In early 2014 personally, I had a really bad year and lost my dad. I was in desperate need of some R&R and a bit of me time. A series of events fell into place at just the right time. My boss gave me back a week leave, and Aunty Pat gave me a cash gift. I booked onto the Tutus That Dance workshop, initially as a week away in a hotel with strangers, just sewing and learning new skills. I thought it might be a bit like ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ but hopefully without the option to get voted out.
I met a great bunch of other mad tutu ladies and had a fabulous time with plenty of wine and gin. I realised that I had known all the sewing skills, but the course gave me the reasons behind the designs and how a professional ballet tutu should be created with a bit of business advice. That built up my self-confidence again.
That very first structured ballet was bought by a local dancer who went on to win Double world Ballet championships wearing it. From then on customers were knocking at the door! Named after my granddaughter who we all called Daisy Do, then Do Tutu was created from my home studio.
From then on, demand has grown until I had to give up the ‘day job’ and make tutus full time. I love what I do and enjoy the delight on the customers faces when they collect their tutu.
“Collected my daughters tutu today and it’s absolutely stunning, my daughter went with ideas of how she wanted it to look and Kim worked hard to make it even better than what my daughter wished for, lovely lady and very talented. Thank you so much” – Denise
“5 stars is not enough for the service we received was first class. Kim made the process of ordering the tutu so easy and finished product is amazing!!! Kim you are one talented lady!! Thank you so much x” – Karen
“We travelled up to Hartlepool 3 times in total. I love how friendly and how welcoming she is and even found us really nice places to visit up there.as well as we live in West Yorkshire. Kim is so in touch with young dancers and what they want. My little lady loves her and the incredible experience of having a one of a kind tutu made. I will and have recommended do tutu to my dance mum friends. and we will be using her again in the future. Xx” -Kirsty
“Just collected a tutu Kim made for my 9-year-old daughter, we only told her the colour we wanted and left her to the design! Both myself and my daughter were blown away with what she created, we absolutely loved it! Kim is one very talented lady and I will definitely be using Do Tutu again in the future. Thanks again x” – Michelle

I apply these same principles to my work with executives and individual females; paying particular attention to the need to accept ‘failing forward’ as a vital part of your journey to improved overall well being, self-acceptance, confidence, career progression and personal development. I also facilitate women only networking events and opportunities; designed to empower women to become comfortable with the concepts of self promotion, collaboration, business development and growth. I’m Amy, and I love love LOVE helping business owners just like you create compelling brand identities which captivate your audience and help you to feel confident about how your business looks. If your brand lacks sparkle then throwing glitter at the problem won’t help. It’s about creating something that attracts the right people and gives them an idea of what you’re all about.
Since I started Whiteacres’ in 2010 I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing people, not just over here in the North East UK, but internationally. My favourite thing to do is brand design – which is creating not just a logo, but a visual package for your whole business which includes your brand colours, typefaces, brand elements, illustrations, photography style and then implementing all of these across every touchpoint of your business so that you not only LOOK the business, but GET business by having a consistent image which speaks to your ideal customer and gives them a burning desire to work with you.
Are you looking for a brand identity that captures what you do, communicates that clearly and compels your ideal client to buy from you?
Brand identity is my thing. If you are a solo entrepreneur looking to raise your game then I’m here for you.
Maybe your offering has changed and you need your business image to reflect that? Perhaps your values have altered, or you are serving a different audience – or you may even want to improve how you look to help you reach a new one? It may be that you’ve been using the same DIY graphics since you started out and you know that they just don’t cut the mustard. You need to try harder to look professional, exude confidence and ensure that your business shows just how great you are – not taking anything away from the amazing business that you have.
Whatever your reason for wanting to work on your brand identity then I’d love to help you out.
Do you need a logo, a brand identity, a magazine or brochure design, a website or some illustrations?
Let me know. I can’t wait to help you out.
Are you heading for conflict? Not communicating?
Is a dispute or disagreement tying you in knots, and making you feel trapped and resentful?
Are relationships at work driving you to distraction?
Customers not paying on time, but you don’t want to have a fight about it?
I offer expert, affordable help with personality clashes, awkward customers, director disagreement and family business disputes. Initial confidential telephone consultation free.
