I am a videographer specialising in Weddings but I am also starting to expand my business into commercial.

I work with the client from the beginning to the very end of the process to find out exactly what they want and create something they will want to cherish forever.

When did you start your business and why?:

I started my business in February because I love filming and being behind the camera.  I learnt about film making at University and became very passionate about.  I decided to make that passion into a business

What gives your business the edge?:

Working with weddings means I am in the happiness industry and I work extremely hard to make my clients happy.  We will discuss the in’s and outs’ of making their video perfect for them and even after I have created the film I allow them to suggest changes they would like made before being presented with the final copy.  I feel something that is going to be cherished forever should be something you love.

What is the best thing about running your own business?:

It is mine.  It makes me feel like I’m doing something worthwhile that I enjoy and it is all mine.

And what is the worst!?:

Time management

Describe a typical day running your business and balancing family life:

On days when I don’t have shoots the alarm goes off at 5:30 to get some progress on editing before my 11 month old son wakes up anytime between 6 and 7:30.  Spend the day entertaining him and managing a home then when he is asleep I continue editing on an evening.  Days when I have shoots are very different.

How do you envisage your business changing over the next 5 years?:

I think my company will have certainly expanded in 5 years time.   I am currently developing my portfolio for commercial videos.  The next stage is a website which I would like professionally created to advertise my services.  Over the next five years I am adamant that my businesses will become successful.

Do you have any advice for other Women in or starting a business?:

Yes.  Take time out.  For your own sanity make time for yourself.  If you don’t take a minute for yourself everything becomes overwhelming and you forget exactly why you started it.  Taking a breather I also find helps productivity; you come back with fresh focus to boss the task at hand.

Selling on eBay UK Ltd, run by Laura Mathieson, is a specialist eBay Consultancy service.

Providing analysis and advice to businesses selling on eBay, services include analysis and training, shop set up through to a managed facility to support small and medium sized companies to flourish on eBay.

When did you start your business and why?:

I was an eBay trader for 10 years, working from home  – I loved it so much I started teaching workshops and training other businesses.

eBay is a huge 3D puzzle which fascinates me – I love solving it!

What gives your business the edge?:

There are very few eBay experts in the UK, and because we focus on the site so completely we are able to spot trends quickly, and provide our businesses with proven ways to increase sales.

What is the best thing about running your own business?:

The variety – doing something I love and never knowing what the day will bring.

And what is the worst!?:

Doing the financial side – invoices and accounts.

Describe a typical day running your business and balancing family life:

My commute is wonderful – from one room to another in my house! Loads of emails and then me and the team work through what’s booked in. Usually I’m in the office most of the day but I also go out about one day a week to meet clients or run workshops.  We are at the mercy of technology, so if the Internet goes down it’s always very frustrating, and I quite dread Windows updates!

Sometimes I speak to clients in Australia or the US and the day extends, but usually I finish at 5 – sometimes earlier on a Friday.

How do you envisage your business changing over the next 5 years?:

I’m growing it and hope to take on an apprentice in a few months – the demand is there and I’m building a group of associates to outsource work we can’t do.

I’d like to have a full eCommerce support business, including experts on Amazon, Etsy, Shopify etc.

Do you have any advice for other Women in or starting a business?:

Make time for yourself – between home and business it’s easy to forget about rest!

I work intuitively with your energy as I tailor my personal development coaching sessions with you to unfold your potential, secure your emotions, build your confidence, and help eliminate the ‘toxic’ situations in your life. A Reiki Master, Meditation Coach, Tarot Consultant, Medium and Crystal Therapist too, working with one to one clients, online, in groups, workshops, and courses, I am delighted to be here and sharing with you the services I offer. I am different from most coaches in this sense, and isn’t that what makes me super interesting an empath who understands who and where you are.  Please do email me susan@susansmalley.co.uk to arrange your very unique personal consultation.    Groups and online courses will be posted regularly for your interest, so I look forward to seeing you soon.               www.susansmalley.co.uk

When did you start your business and why?:

I had always been working alongside my day time employment as P.A. to Directors in the public and private sectors twenty years previous to my becoming self-employed, which just so happened due to my taking redundancy.  A release which allowed me to work with my services for friends, family and clients in the north east of UK, and beyond.  For the past ten years I have worked at building my fab clientele and made some great friends via networking through business and social media routes.  My passion for what I do shows as does the drive and flexible approach I have to my working hours to accommodate those of you who are unable to reach me during the day time.   So evenings and weekends are pretty much dedicated as and when necessary to the unfoldment and upliftment to those who seek my services.  I simply love being self-employed.

What gives your business the edge?:

Me.  I am unique in that in each area I work, whether that be healing, meditation, mediumship, tarot, teaching, spiritual coaching, life coaching, public speaking or workshop facilitating, and online marketing of my business, I do so straight from intuitively connecting and always from the heart.  My reputation has built on a foundation of sincerity and warmth and non judgement.

What is the best thing about running your own business?:

The gorgeous people I get to meet, the fab places I work within as well as the joy of working from my own home, and the total flexibility I have in inspiring others, and equally remaining inspired soulfully myself.

 And what is the worst!?:

Sometimes running out of time!   This year is flying by and I cannot believe that whilst I have smashed some goals I set for myself – that time evades me when trying to focus on the build of new areas of work.  However, I trust all will flow easily if it is mean to.

Describe a typical day running your business and balancing family life:

Morning admin, social media marketing, clients for mediumship and tarot guidance, a reiki client and crystal therapy session, tea, a catch up with friend, and then work in public arena on evening, or at home, coaching others to become stronger, more confident and at ease in accepting a mindfulness way of living yet appreciating the power of law of attraction.

How do you envisage your business changing over the next 5 years?:

Online business to soar.  I love to write so my ebooks and published books to be on sale to aid my students and clients right across the world.   Freeing up my time for another passion of mine –  travel.

Do you have any advice for other Women in or starting a business?:

Do it!    It will always eat into your thoughts and emotions if you don’t.   You are unique and you have every right to express that in a world where acceptance of all possibilities is ever expanding.

Of course the first three years are the most poignant and you must define boundaries of working hours in order to keep a balance in life and thus keep the flame of romance of life in full swing.
